"The VIC" on Route 12N
The Adirondack Foothills Visitor's Information Center
Founded in 1997 by the Adirondack Gateway Business Association (AGBA), the Visitor Information Center (VIC) was established to promote business and tourism in Northern Oneida County. Due to its location on one of four high traffic routes to the Adirondacks and Northern New York, it also acts as an information location for Lewis County, Alexandria Bay, The 1,000 Islands, Old Forge, Ausable Chasm and many other tourism-dependant areas and businesses in the Northern New York and Greater Adirondacks region.
The VIC is located just north of Barneveld on State Route 12 in a New York State rest area. It is operated by the Adirondack Gateway Business Association (AGBA). The AGBA supports the VIC through an advertising program, renting businesses space for the display of brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials. An outdoor sign is also rented weekly to publicize events year round. Additional funding is provided by the Towns of Remsen and Trenton. Traffic through our lobby, open 24/7, is steady year round and extremely busy Memorial Day through Labor Day, with travelers and tourists looking for places to see, things to do, and various travel information.
We fill a valuable niche in the local and regional tourism industry. The beautiful lakes, majestic mountains and clean air of the Adirondack Park remain a valuable resource for upstate New York. We are helping to promote that, while supporting local businesses and proving that Oneida County, Northern New York and The Greater Adirondacks are, “A beautiful place to spend a day or a lifetime.”
